Steve’s ATP French Open Preview: Karatsev vs Brooksby

Posted on

Jenson Brooksby did a phenomenal job of making his way through qualifying, with his opponent Evan Furness trading at $1.01 in-play during the match. He may get a bit of a rude awakening today though, in conditions that look well suited to Aslan Karatsev.

I don’t feel the serve of Brooksby on clay is good enough to consider him in the game or set handicap market. This match is fairly and squarely on the racquet of Karatsev, who should enjoy the drop in opponent quality after dropping a three set match to Jannik Sinner the other week.

I have had some question marks over Karatsev’s ability to lock in and stay motivated in some of the smaller tournaments since his Australian Open run, however we know we are going to get maximum effort form the Russian here at Roland Garros. In the best conditions of the day when these two are expected to take to the court, look for Karatsev to overpower the American qualifier, and be far too good. Happy to back him in for a straight set win for 1 unit.
