ATP Doha Preview: Federer vs Basilashvili

Posted on

Just a 0.5 unit selection here, as I was hoping for some stronger competition when looking to oppose Roger Federer in his second match back.

Yes, Federer did win yesterday, however he has made it well known that this is all part of an extended preparation with the intention of trying to peak for Wimbledon in a couple of months. I caught the third set of this match on review and I was impressed with his level in tight moments late. He is smiling and enjoying being on court, which is great to see, but also shows where his mind is at currently.

I wish this was almost anyone else in the draw bar Basilashvili, however he has done well to string together two wins in a row this week off a horror start to 2021. The start to the year, and most of his form since the tour resumed last year, leaves a lot to be desired. There have been small signs of improvement this week.

Getting up for your first game after injury isn’t the hardest game, it is backing up quickly for the second one. Federer comes of a 2.5 hour 3-set match yesterday, and Basilashvili will be aggressive from the outset. Happy to oppose Federer, but only for half a unit.

Suggested Bet

0.5 units Basilashvili to defeat Federer at $5.50 (+450) at Bet365 (better odds at all other bookmakers at time of writing)
