ATP Roland Garros Preview: K Anderson vs A Rublev

Anderson vs Rublev (Approx 07:00pm AEST)

Short and sweet here, as I am keen to take a set against Andrey Rublev in the first set with Kevin Anderson today.

When you look over the recent tennis of Rublev, he has looked at his most vulnerable early in matches. He lost his first set in round 1 to Querrey, and Davidovich Fokina served for the first set in Round 2. His recent losses to Hurkacz and Medvedev also ended with him dropping the first set. When you combine that with my ever-so-slight concern over Kevin Anderson over the best-of-5 coming off a five set match, this looks to be the best way to oppose the Russian.

Kevin Anderson has the type of game that is going to genuinely frustrate Rublev. When you have a big first serve and the ability to gain cheap points with it, it can certainly lead to frustration for Rublev, as we saw against Hurkacz and Querrey. Anderson’s mindset and on-court demeanour give him an imposing edge as well, and he will know the importance of trying to pressure Rublev early to try and gain a foothold into this match as a big underdog.

The bigger he is as an underdog, the more likely you are to see that imposing fist-pumping and positive self-talk early from Anderson. The fact I feel this match suits Rublev the longer it goes, and the fact the Russian has looked a little shaky early this week, I am happy to take Anderson to win the first set for 1 unit.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Anderson first set winner vs Rublev at $3.40 at Bet365
