ATP Roland Garros Preview: Bublik vs Sonego

Bublik vs Sonego (Approx 09:00pm AEST)

I think a little too much may have been read into the win from Alexander Bublik over Gael Monfils in round 1.

A three game head-start for Italian Lorenzo Sonego looks to be a position to jump at today, especially when you consider the profile of both players. I am always hesitant to give up games when backing Bublik, given his propensity to tune in and out of matches at times. You never quite know what you are going to witness, and there is always the potential for a cheap set to be dropped, even from a dominant match position up a set or two.

Yes, Sonego did take 5 sets to win his first round match against Gomez, however I don’t have any question marks over the Italian’s fitness. I have seen him battle it out for hours in desert-like conditions previously, so backing up should not be a concern. The other positive to come from the first round was the two sets he dropped being tiebreaks. Whilst it was a 5-set battle, Sonego broke serve five more times, and won an extra 28 points across the course of the match. You know the level he is going to provide, and that combined with a +3.5 game handicap is enough for me to play this for a unit.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Sonego +3.5 games vs Bublik at $1.83 at Bet365
