ATP Challenger Trieste – Musetti vs Popyrin

Musetti vs Popyrin (Approx 08:00pm AEST)

Assuming Popyrin is fully engaged in this match, the underdog odds here look worthy of a 1 unit selection. Popyrin decided to skip the US Open hardcourt swing, instead focusing on the clay swing in the lead up to Roland Garros.

Whilst it is difficult to translate the form of a different style, Popyrin was able to get some competitive tennis under his belt in the UTS in France during the break. He turned up to Prague and delivered a solid first round performance, defeating Quentin Halys 6-4 7-6. He was great in clutch moments, and will look to build on his performance today against Lorenzo Musetti. I think the break has done him the world of good, as he was playing below 100% at the end of last year, however looked much better in terms of his movement on his return to the tour.

I have no doubt that Musetti has a long a successful career ahead of him, mainly on clay, however he still finds himself a little overpowered against some bigger ball strikers with solid movement on clay. Popyrin fits that image, much like Yannick Hanfmann did last week in his three set win over Musetti in Todi.

Popyrin’s movement on clay is impressive of his size, and with his first serve complimenting that, he is a tough prospect at Challenger level on clay. I am happy to make a 1 unit selection here on Popyrin at the underdog price.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Popyrin to defeat Musetti at $2.09 at Topsport
