Misaki Doi is another I have down to thrive in the conditions, with her movement and counter-punching ability well suited to the conditions we will see in New York.
Oceane Dodin was a bit on the disappointing side in her performances in Palermo and Prague. After defeating Zidansek, it was straight set losses to Yastremska and Tsurenko on the clay to finish off her European swing. I haven’t seen enough in her outdoor hardcourt performances in her recent history to support her at the price against a tactically smart opponent.
My worry for Dodin in this match-up on a slower hardcourt is Doi’s ability to keep Dodin on the move, and hit back behind her line of movement. It caused her to take Shelby Rogers to 3 sets in Lexington, which has turned out to be a decent formline out of Lexington. One of the key strengths of Doi is her ability to absorb pace and re-direct, and that is going to be key today.
I didn’t see enough from Dodin in Europe to feel compelled to jump on her at the price on offer, and I prefer the price on Doi here for 1 unit.
