WTA Shenzhen
Pliskova vs Sabalenka (Approx 04:00pm AEDST)
The total of 20.5 games looks a touch low in my opinion, and it perhaps doesn’t give the credit that Kristyna Pliskova deserves. Pliskova has shown she too can play some solid tennis in Shenzhen over the last couple of years. After finishing the year with a semi final appearance in Tashkent, Pliskova was able to start her 2020 very well with a 6-3 6-3 win over Begu yesterday. It was a serving masterclass from Pliskova, with the Czech not facing a break point for the match. She will be up against it today, facing the defending champion in Aryna Sabalenka.
After a tough first couple of games, Sabalenka was far too good for Margarita Gasparyan. The Russian was up against it, lacking to power to overcome Sabalenka or the movement to extend points and force a potential error. To be able to challenge her in good form, you need to be able to play quality retrieval tennis, or beat her at her own game.
Pliskova won’t be afraid to match Sabalenka with some quality first-strike tennis today. The leftie will give Sabalenka a bit of a different look. The 20.5 game total looks too low, so I am happy to make a play there. I am also happy to make a small play on Pliskova at the head to head price.
