Vinny’s WTA Rome Preview – Sara Errani vs Amanda Anisimova

Posted on

Quite frankly, I am not sure Amanda Anisimova should be a heavy favorite on slow clay at this point in her career. The American who took a timeout from tennis last year is still looking to find joy on and off the court. A loss to Emiliana Arango probably didn’t bring her much of that at her last tournament in Madrid.

Today, Anisimova is facing another opponent whose game plan is construed to involve opponents in long rallies. On clay, at sea level, and at night, these are the perfect conditions for Errani to annoy Anisimova. The 37-year-old made a career of driving opponents out of their minds and she’s far from finished as recent wins over Sorribes Tormo, Kalinskaya or Wozniacki show. Organizers in Rome know best why they put this match last on Center Court tonight and the conditions make me estimate Errani at closer to a 40% than a 31% chance of winning.
