Jake’s Estoril Preview: Rocha vs. Monfils

Posted on

I am almost certain that the level Henrique Rocha produced to win Challenger Murcia two weeks ago is good enough to an ageing and rusty Gael Monfils a proper run for his money, here.

While Monfils has produced some sort of resurgence on hard courts this season, he almost never plays on clay courts anymore and over the last few seasons, his positive results on this surfaces have been very much few and far between.

Rocha – who has a close first-up loss to Garin after winning Murcia – should be ripe and ready to go on home soil and I’m very confident the Challenger form is good enough for this bet to be a good one.

Monfils is an extremely athletic player and if interested and fit, should be able to make Rocha look silly, but those question marks around the Frenchman’s form are far too big and I think at this stage in his career he’s going to be more interested at tournaments like Monte Carlo and Roland Garros.

This price looks big to me.
