Vinny’s ATP Rio de Janeiro Preview – Sebastian Ofner vs Jaume Munar

Posted on

Things will get physical this week in Rio de Janeiro. We’re getting close to 30°C throughout the first few days (and even more later in the week), but it’s the extreme humidity that will push players to their absolute limits. Humidity will rise up to 90% Monday evening, which is ferocious when pushing your body to the max. Played at sea level, the super slow courts won’t help shorten points, so I’m going to side with players that have outstanding cardio and flourish in long, exhausting rallies.

Jaume Munar could be the prototype of said player. The Spaniard is one of the best at prolonging rallies and I’m not sure Sebastian Ofner can deal with that for the entirety of today’s match in these super tough conditions. Neither have played great nor absolute trash tennis in recent weeks, so Ofner’s outstanding early-season form has mitigated quite a bit. Factoring in the conditions a lot more this week since they really are extreme, I’m making Munar an even bigger favorite and have him right around the 1.60 (-167) mark.
