Jake’s Delray Beach Preview: Kecmanovic vs. Kypson

Posted on

Backing Miomir Kecmanovic first-up after a shaky Davis Cup run goes against my better judgement, but looking at the state of this court during the late session, I’m going to give him a go.

Kecmanovic has made a very happy hunting ground of conditions like this: outdoors, high-bouncing, slightly hot, windy, and slow.

I’m adamant his best ever tennis came at Miami in 2022 when he almost knocked off Carlos Alcaraz, and he fell a set short of the trophy against Fritz last season.

His form at Melbourne was very good, and he simply ran into an unplayable version of Alcaraz that night, so we’ll forgive him.

If he rocks up with the right mindset tonight, and doesn’t succumb to a shaky start, I think he can dominate the American from the baseline.

Kypson was devastating on the Challenger Circuit towards the back end of last season, which does concern me, and I always have the utmost respect for elite-level Challenger form (Luciano Darderi), but by the same token, if you planted Kecmanovic into Challenger Champaign and Cleveland, I’d say he’d win them too.
