Although I’ve somewhat steered away from these in recent memory, I’m very fond of the outright market and it’s something I’m looking to get back into ahead of February.
The day-to-day grind of backing singles can be taxing, and I know the tournament winner section is beatable, based on many years of performing well against it.
This week we go to Montpellier for an indoor 250 tournament and I believe the top seed is perfectly suited.
Holger Rune was eliminated at Melbourne by the extremely in-form Arthur Cazaux, but he looked fine physically and is too good to not be winning tournaments soon.
Rune has displayed remarkably high levels on indoor hard courts, beating Novak Djokovic at Paris at the back-end of 2022 to add onto an outrageous run during that portion of the season.
Whether it was injuries, confidence, or the overall pressure of rising up the ranks so quickly, Rune dropped off badly throughout stages in the last 12 months, but I’m pulling for him to get back to winnings ways.
He only has to win four matches this week, and I don’t have him longer than $1.60 against any potential opponent, and even that quota might be too high.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is second in the market, and players like Monfils, Coric and Murray are also present.
It will be Gasquet or a qualifier first-up, and that should see him get off the mark nicely.
I can already see this price making its way in towards $3, and that’s closer to where it should be.
