I’m not sure I agree on the market move from 1.66 all the way up to 1.80+ on Daniil Medvedev. It’s the first time the two face each other in a major and frankly, this should be Medvedev’s biggest advantage.
Zverev has blisters on his foot that he struggled with late in his match against Alcaraz and if it wasn’t for a bad day at the office for the young Spaniard, he would have probably turned that one around completely. Zverev was up 6-1, 6-3, *5-3 before finding himself as the underdog in the betting markets heading to a fourth set. It’s been another one of the Zverev chokes that he’s still prone to. The German does have the better backhand, but I’m not sure that’s enough to beat Medvedev. He probably won’t be able to repeat the 85% 1st serves that he hit against Alcaraz, constantly putting pressure on his opponent. Always adjusting his return position, Medvedev will also neutralize a lot of Zverev’s big serves.
Their head-to-head has been turning more and more in favor of Medvedev too, who has won ten of their last twelve matches. All told, Medvedev in best-of-five format is a tough, tough matchup for Zverev and I have this match more at the opening 60/40 proposition.
