ATP Adelaide – Korda vs Lehecka

Posted on

Injury ruined Seb Korda’s 2023 season at the Australian Open. The good news for him, however, is he appears to have regained his form in Adelaide, a place he has now produced a solid level of tennis at in the last 12 months.

Korda made the final here last year, going a set up on Novak Djokovic before losing in 3 tight sets, in a match that lasted over 3 hours. He took a little time through Roland Garros and Wimbledon to re-establish his rhythm after his injury, and put together a pretty solid back end to the season, which included a Masters 1000 semi final in Shanghai. He looks to have upped his level here in Adelaide after a meek first-up showing in Brisbane, handling some tricky spots to still defeat Sonego and O’Connell in straight sets.

Korda is a significant upgrade in opposition quality for Jiri Lehecka, who comes in off wins against Walton, Lajovic and Jarry this week. After starting the year with a bang at the Australian Open, his only other trip past the quarter finals of any tournament was the week before the US Open at Winston Salem, where Korda himself granted him a walkover into the final. Lehecka hasn’t looked to be at his best level to date in Adelaide, and I do feel Korda has the edge in the majority of areas in this match-up.

There is too much that works in favour of Korda in this match-up to not take the -2 games that is currently on offer.
