This is going to be a bit of a power struggle, however at the current odds and game handicap, there is only one player that has caught my eye.
I just don’t quite trust Alexandrova at the moment, especially when comparing to the current form of Kudermetova. It was a tricky first round match-up for Kudermetova, however she came through Krueger with what was a pretty strong performance in the end. The first serve in particular is looking rock solid, and her style is well suited here.
Allowing Linette to serve for the match twice, and serving 10 double faults, and the loss to Riera last week, isn’t the best form to start the year from Alexandrova. She is streaky at the best of times, and although her redlining best is able to match it with many, it’s the inconsistency in her level that makes it hard to take her at the current moneyline or handicap.
Kudermetova is the type of player that is capable of causing Alexandrova a lot of grief. She has the court coverage to be able to get an above average numbers of balls back, and has the power herself to be able to keep Alexandrova off-balance regularly. Alexandrova’s two wins in the head to head have come on the grass which suits her a little more, but look for Kudermetova to continue to have the edge in this match-up.
