Laslo Djere vs Kwon Soonwoo: It has been a torrid start to the year form Laslo Djere, with his last win coming in Adelaide in the first week of the year courtesy of a default from Corentin Moutet. He has played solid opposition, however lacked the form required for me to consider him at the game handicap. Kwon has looked solid since the Australian Open, with recent losses coming to Rublev x 2 and Fucsovics. In a similar fashion to Sock vs Cerundolo, I see Kwon being too dynamic here for Djere considering form and conditions.
Arthur Rinderknech vs Benjamin Bonzi: After a couple of tight contests at Challenger Level in 2021, these two are showing why they deserve to be at ATP level with their efforts over the last year or so. Rinderknech looks to be over the wrist issue that caused him to withdraw from the Australian Open, however his tennis since hasn’t quite been at the same level. Bonzi’s only loss in his last ten matches was in three sets to Andrey Rublev, and he is developing a more consistent brand of tennis, the consistency required to match it at ATP level with his ranking of 62. Happy to back Bonzi as a slight underdog.
Jenson Brooksby vs Roberto Carballes Baena: We were robbed of the opportunity to catch Brooksby live in Australia to start the year due to Covid, however an appearance in the final of ATP Dallas (lost to Opelka) and a three set loss to Alexander Zverev in the middle of the night in Acapulco remains very solid form. On a hardcourt, even a slow hardcourt, I just don’t see where RCB can make inroads into the Brooksby game. The total is sitting at 20.5 as Brooksby has found himself ending up in regular 3-set battles, however RCB coming off the clay swing is towards the bottom of the list for 2022 in terms of hardcourt opposition for Brooksby. Happy to take the under.
