Steve’s ATP Wimbledon Preview: Kecmanovic vs Bagnis

Posted on

I don’t think Facundo Bagnis missed this part of the tour when it was cancelled in 2020.

There are three paths a player can take between Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and they are transitioning to the grass for warm up tournaments, taking time off, or playing Challenger clay tournaments. Bagnis chose the clay, making a semi final and a 2nd round in France. Kecmanovic may not have won any matches, but he did manage a solid hitout on grass against Ugo Humbert, having served for the match before falling in 3 sets.

Humbert was coming off a title in Halle, so matching him for periods is decent form. Whilst I do have a big question mark around the majority of the 2019 Antalya given the extreme heat that impacted that week, but it did show Kecmanovic’s ability to play on the surface in tough conditions.

A general sign of discomfort on the surface of grass, and knowing you are better off tackling Challengers on clay, is the lack of any grass form outside of Wimbledon and Wimbledon Qualifying. That is the case for Bagnis, with only 6 matches on grass for his career, for a total of one set one. This is the strongest player he has faced on grass as well for his career, whihc doesn’t bode overly well in my opinion.

The game handicap is high, however I am drawn to the game total in this one. I think this should be a relatively comfortable win for Kecmanovic, and I will be taking the total games under 31.5 here for 1 unit.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Bagnis/Kecmanovic total games under 31.5 at $1.97 at Unibet (and Pinnacle)
