Steve’s ATP Halle Preview: Giron vs Pospisil

Posted on

Whilst the odds look to be around the wrong way in this one, I am happy to make a small play on Vasek Pospisil with a PLUS game handicap here in Halle.

The big question mark around Pospisil here is the fact we haven’t seen him on court since his meltdown in Miami, where he loss to Mackenzie McDonald in 3 sets. It was more for what the Canadian said between games and not his tennis, however it is good to know he hasn’t been away from the tour due to injury, and moreso a distaste of clay.

Today he faces Marcos Giron, who made his way through qualifying with straight set wins over Stricker and Galan. Today is a significant step up in opposition, and I am a little surprised to see him here as a favourite without lead-up injury concerns for Vasek.

Match rust, and lack of grass matches may be an issue for many players, and I would be surprised if I was overly aggressive with any matches this week barring something exceptional. Instead, I am happy to back in proven grasscourt players in value spots. This will be a 1.5 unit selection on the Canadian at the game handicap. He has long term form on the surface, so this looks to be a good play to kick off the grass season.
