Steve’s WTA Rome Preview: Putintseva vs Gauff

Posted on

I will keep this short, as this match is set to start in around 90 minutes.

I opposed Coco Gauff last week with Karolina Pliskova of all players, and now we are getting north of $2.50 for claycourter Yulia Putintseva to get the job done in Rome. Putintseva was on the end of a Konta performance out of the blue last week, however she should prefer the conditions on offer in Rome this week.

There is a little concern over the fitness of Putintseva, who had to retire from her Billie Jean King Cup match a couple of weeks ago after splitting tiebreaks. Taking her today with a money back bookmaker in case of retirement is probably the best approach.

Gauff lacks the power to be able to hit through the clay consistently, and I get the impression she may struggle a touch here in Rome. Putintseva plays with a larger margin of error, and knows how to use the clay to her advantage. At odds north of $2.40, I am happy to get involved for 1.5 units.

Suggested Bet

1.5 units Putintseva to defeat Gauff at $2.62 (+162) at Bet365
