Steve’s Debrief, and ATP Estoril Preview: Martinez vs Norrie

Debrief:

A straight set win, a straight set loss and a retirement from a set up was the outcome of yesterday, resulting in -0.06 units. The Pinnacle closing line was beaten for all three plays, however Zvonareva was the big surprise yesterday in my opinion.

Martinez vs Norrie

I am a little surprised to see Pedro Martinez pop up again today as an underdog against Cam Norrie. Outside of perhaps his three set win over Karen Khachanov, I am not overly enamoured with Norrie’s form and how it stacks up against a player in Martinez who has higher upside and overall potential in my opinion.

Outside of dropping a tiebreak in the first round of qualifying, Martinez has looked to thrive in the conditions in Estoril. The cloudy conditions in the cool weather will all play into the hands of Martinez, who is far more comfortable in covering the court, and did a great job in winning 37% of return points behind the first serve of Bublik the other day.

I have Martinez priced up as a slight favourite here, so the $2.30 money line is right up my alley. I will be taking the Spaniard to win here for 2.5 units. If he can take control of the majority of baseline rallies, he will enjoy more time on the ball today, and on the recent performances of both players he should get the job done here.

Suggested Bet

2.5 units Martinez to defeat Norrie at $2.30 at Topsport
