ATP Roland Garros Preview: Paire vs Kwon

Paire vs Kwon (Approx 10:00pm AEST)

There was a moment over the last 24 hours where I was inclined to make a play on Benoit Paire here as an underdog to Kwon, however the circumstances in which I would find myself comfortable in making that play aren’t widely available enough to make it an official play.

Paire didn’t look too bad early in his match with Casper Ruud in Hamburg, breaking the Norwegian multiple times in the first set. After things unravelled late, it was another retirement for Paire, who continues to struggle since his positive test for COVID-19.

The disappointing thing for Paire is the fact the conditions in Paris actually suit him, as well as having an opponent who is inexperienced on clay. What is the play?

For mine, I would be taking Paire here as an underdog at a bookmaker that voids payouts in the event of a retirement. The other option would be to anticipate that if anything, we will see Paire at his best in the first set, making him an underdog to win the first set an interesting prospect.

Whilst I have fallen short of making a play on Paire, I wouldn’t be overly keen jumping into that price on Kwon given the absolute lack of clay form.

Suggested Bet

No official bet for me, however Paire to win at a bookmaker that voids on retirement, or Paire to win Set 1 look to be the best selections in this one.
