WTA US Open – Putintseva vs Lapko

Putintseva vs Lapko (Approx 02:30am AEST)

Vera Lapko absolutely got away with one in the first round, coming from a set and 4-1 (and double game point) down to defeat Golubic in 2hr18min. She won’t be afforded the same freedom today against a player like Putintseva.

Lapko managed to get the job done with 33 winners and a staggering 55 unforced errors, something she would need to significantly tidy up in the second round to be any chance against Putintseva. The Kazakh, who I have as a trading spot for the fortnight, was dominant in her win over Montgomery, winning 6-1 6-3 in 66 minutes, hitting only 15 unforced errors for the match whilst breaking the tennager’s serve 6 times.

For Lapko to be a chance here, she would need to improve on her round 1 performance considerably, to a level well above anything I have seen from her in the last 12 months. I am happy to take on that possibility, with Putintseva set to thrive in these conditions. The -5.5 game handicap at just over $2 looks to be a great value play in humid conditions, something that should faze Putintseva in the slight. Happy to play this one for 1.5 units.

Suggested Bet

1.5 units Putintseva -5.5 games vs Lapko at $2.02 at Topsport
