I’ve backed Tomljanovic a couple of times this week, however I’m jumping to the other side of the net today to take Leylah Fernandez.
The appeal of Tomljanovic in her two earlier matches this week was the opponent across the net being a power player who lacked grass court experience and quality. She snuck over the line against Zhu last time out, and against a more capable player who won’t be giving her as much pace in Fernandez, things will be a little more difficult for the Australian. Fernandez overcame a tricky Golubic, who served for a straight set win, and looked strong late in the match.
Fernandez is looking strong on the grass behind her first serve, and I don’t see her handing Tomljanovic enough unforced errors here for to justify the Aussie’s odds in this form.
