Matteo Martineau’s straight-sets win over Mattia Bellucci is looking great at first sight, however, the Italian doesn’t seem to be alright at the moment as he had to retire from his first match of the year and is probably playing through injury now. Make no mistake, Martineau has improved quite a bit over the past few years, but so has Billy Harris. The Brit is 100 points ahead of the Frenchman in both the overall and hard-court Elo ratings. I give a slight serve advantage to Harris, who also possesses the tennis IQ to frequently attack Martineau’s one-handed backhand. While Martineau has some more variety to his game and can dominate for short periods of time, Harris is the more solid player, which should show in backhand-to-backhand rallies most notably. My fair line on Harris is 1.67 here and I would play him down to 1.75.
