Wang got the better of this match-up a month ago in Auckland, however looking at that match, the odds that day, and the tennis each player has produced since then, I am not sure I have my head around Putintseva being $2.20 here.
Their last meeting was the first match of the year for both players. It’s worth noting that Putintseva led by a break in each set, and served for the second set, and to my eye for the most part has looked better as the year has progressed. She can take a while to find her rhythm on the court, however the wins over Bouzkova and Golubic in particular have impressed me. Since Wang defeated Putintseva, she has wins against Hibino and Gadecki to her name, and losses to Parry, Yuan and Wang.
I just don’t agree with the price changes here when you take into account the form of both players, and the conditions in Hua Hin. Happy to back Putintseva here as an underdog.
