Alex’s WTA Hua Hin Preview – Wang vs Putintseva

Posted on

It’s time of the quarterfinals in the WTA 250 tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand. One of the matchups looks like a tight contest to me and a great chance to bet one of my favorite markets, the 1st set total. In WTA tennis, the 1stset is generally the longest of the two or three sets played. Players are often at their best with fresh legs and serve rates tend to be a bit higher. I don’t often see this built into the 1st set totals which are often priced close to the 2nd set totals. The match between Wang Xinyu and Yulia Putintseva profiles as a good chance to bet the over in the 1st set. Both women hold close to 70% of their serves on hard courts in WTA level matches, but both can also play aggressively on return to break back when needed. They played in Osaka in September of 2023 and last month in Auckland. Four of the fives sets played in those matches had 10+ games and the fifth set was 6-3. I expect a competitive opening frame that gets to 4-4 and hopefully 5-5. I’m betting the first set over 9.5 games at 2.10(+110) and over 10.5 games at 3.70(+270).

Suggested Bet:
0.75U – Putintseva/Wang 1st Set Over 9.5 Games 2.10(+110)
0.25U – Putintseva/Wang 1st Set Over 10.5 Games 3.70(+270)

Over 18s Only (21+ in some jurisdictions). 1 unit = 1% of bankroll. These are my bets that I am making. Please enjoy your betting responsibly. Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and do not chase a loss.
