ATP Australian Open Qualifying – Mensik vs Mayot

Posted on

I continue to be impressed with the level of Jakub Mensik.

The 18 year old Czech has put in some very impressive tennis since returning the the hardcourt for US Open qualifying in August. I was a little wary of the late season flurry, and I wanted to see if it was a level he could maintain when the tour returned a couple of weeks ago, and he is looking good. He has wins over Hassan, Yevyesev, Nakashima (twice) and Gaio, and a loss to Koepfer in the Challenger Canberra final. He has looked solid throughout, and looks a solid price at the game handicap against Mayot in this one.

Mayot took the route to Melbourne via Noumea, where he made the semi final. Fortunately for him, he has had a relatively straightforward draw, which looks to have flattered him a little bit. Casting an eye over Mayot and Mensik’s form, it is difficult to pass up the -2 game handicap on the Czech for a unit here.
