If you told me a week ago I’d be champing at the bit to back Casper Ruud on Australian hard courts, I’d be a little perplexed.
Yet, here we are looking to support to Norwegian after a sensational two-game stretch at the United Cup.
Ruud has dismantled both Griekspoor and Coric in his first two contests, and now receives a similar SP against Mannarino, something I’m not sure I agree with.
Ruud is very comfortable playing in the heat and possesses not only the power, but the ball-hitting consistency to go toe-to-toe with Mannarino and most likely outlast him.
The Frenchman is coming off a win against Sonego, but I want to talk about his near-$5 SP against Zverev, a price that’s almost halved in size for a match against Ruud.
What would Ruud pay against Zverev? $2.20. The SP pattern here is quite confusing and I think the market is generally a little too low on the Scandinavian.
Mannarino had such a massive 2023 campaign, winning a pair of hard court titles and generating perhaps the best season of his long career. But he has the best break point conversion rate on the tour that was unsustainably high.
I want to be on Mannarino to beat players around his level, or below him, but Casper Ruud is a grand slam finalist on these courts, and if you’re willing to forgive him for a so-so 2023, you should really have him shorter than market, here.
