Wimbledon Day 5 Preview – Rune vs Carballes Baena

Posted on

Now I’m not completely sold on Holger Rune and his general consistency in his level, particularly at this stage of his career on the grass, however the game handicap looks to be a game low here as he takes on Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.

The sun will be shining today and the conditions will be a touch faster, which I do think favours Rune here. I didn’t feel Rune played at level well below his best in round 1, yet still managed to get the better of Loffhagen 7-6 6-3 6-2 in just over two hours. His serve is at a level where he should be able to hold comfortably relatively consistently in this match-up. RCB’s career stats on the grass aren’t great, even with the win over Arnaldi in round 1.

The big risk with a big game handicap and a player like Rune is the potential for a lapse. I’ll keep this to a unit, but Rune should find himself consistently in RCB service games, and with no major advantage for the Spaniard when breaking down the match-up, I cannot pass up the -7.5 games.
