Steve’s ATP US Open Preview: Halys vs Koepfer

Posted on

With odds close to $2, I like the game handicap here for Dominik Koepfer against French Qualifier Quentin Halys.

This looks to be a solid match-up for the German, who has had his fair share of success both at the US Open and against bigger strikers of the ball. Koepfer is one of the better counterpunchers of the unseeded players at the US Open. I was anticipating a -5.5 to -6 game handicap here given the likelihood of Koepfer being able to retrieve and counterpunch on the return of serve of Halys, and look to be aggressive when opportunities arise.

Halys was solid in qualifying, however you could argue he was a major beneficiary of a horrific serving performance from Ernests Gulbis in the final round. He has struggled to make the transition from Challenger level hardcourt tennis to ATP level hardcourt tennis to date, and in warm and humid conditions, this -4.5 game handicap and nearly even money looks worthy of a 1.5 unit selection.

Suggested Bet

1.5 units Koepfer -4.5 games vs Halys at $1.97 at Topsport/Unibet ($2.01 at Pinnacle)
