Steve’s ATP Meerbusch Challenger Preview: Van de Zandschulp vs Klein

Posted on

Although Botic got the better of this match-up last week, I think Lukas Klein presents a bit of value here in Germany.

I have been a little disappointed in the performances of Botic Van de Zandschulp this week, with 3 set wins over Cid Subervi and Lestienne, both going deep into final sets. His serve stat and general play just haven’t stacked up compared to his overall form this year, and stepping up in opposition in Klein is a concern for mine.

It’s been a heavy schedule for Botic, playing his fifth consecutive week of tennis. He is scheduled to have a week off in the lead in to US Open qualifying, however 5 weeks in a row on the Challenger Tour is a relatively heavy schedule, especially given the success he has he week to week.

Klein is playing a far more selective schedule, and looks to be in a great spot here to turn the tables on last week, where Klein had a break point at 5-5* in the third, but lost 5-7. I do feel his game translates well, and he is a step up in opposition for Botic compared to the rest of this week.

I think the last month will catch up with BVDZ here, and I’ll be backing Klein to win outright for 2 units.

Back later with more.

Suggested Bet

2 units Klein to defeat Van de Zandschulp at $2.23 at Unibet
