Steve’s ATP French Open Preview: Zverev vs Safiullin

Posted on

Just a short preview on this match, first up on court.

Zverev at the minus looks to be slight value in this one, considering the significant quality mismatch on court today. Whilst I thought Otte has the ability to redline his level for periods to be able to match the intensity and level of Zverev, I don’t have as much trust in Safiullin to do the same.

Safiullin got the better of a streaky opponent in Taberner in round 1, backing up what was some quality qualifying form. When you cast an eye over his longer term form however, it is difficult to make a case for him keeping this match close in any capacity.

Zverev got his early slam wake-up call in round 1, which is probably to the detriment of Safiullin today. Once Zverev locked in in round 1 it was one way traffic, and with that lapse out of the way, I am anticipating a better performance from start to finish for the German today. Happy to back Zverev for 1 unit.

I would rather take the -8.5 game handicap to a -9.5 game handicap if -9 games is unavailable to you.

Suggested Bet
