Whilst the form of Mikael Ymer in Melbourne was solid, I am not sure he should be at near coin flip odds in his match with Jiri Vesely today.
Jiri Vesely is a player who is largely underrated, and possesses all the tools capable of being trouble in these conditions today. I think a little too much has been read into the meeting between these two in 2019, and as a result value has opened up on the Czech.
I am a little pressed for time today, however the form of Vesely leading into this one outweighs Ymer. Ymer’s wins over Hurkacz and Alcaraz were aided by his ability to handle the hot conditions better than his opponent, so I don’t carry as much weight in those wins compared to most. If Vesely can maintain an average first serve percentage, he should be able to produce opportunities to break down the forehand wing of the Swede here. I will keep this at 1 unit with both players on the back-up from the Australian Open, but couldn’t let this price go by without a small play.
