Lin Zhu finds herself in another match where she will be in complete control of the destiny of the majority of points across the match. With Errani backing up off her crushing loss to Hsieh the other day, I like Zhu to get the jump here on the Italian.
Whilst I didn’t get the win on my selection on Zhu to win the first set against Elise Mertens the other day, I felt it was the right play given Zhu’s fadeout in the second set. Zhu has looked at her best recently earlier in matches, so the first set appeals here before Errani turns this match into a grind.
It is hard to weigh up the motivation of players in the days after losing a match at a grand slam, so I will keep this to 1 unit. Happy to back Zhu to get off to a strong start and take the first set.
