WTA Australian Open Preview: Gavrilova vs Sorribes Tormo

Posted on

Time to cap off round 1 with an Aussie winner. Well I am predicting it to be the case anyway.

The courts suit Daria Gavrilova far more than they suit the Spaniard, who had a little burst of form in Abu Dhabi prior to the quarantine period. She lost as a heavy favourite straight out of quarantine however, losing to Caty McNally in three sets, with the American struggling physically in the third set and still getting over the line. Add to that the face SST faced 28 break points for the match, and I anticipate that Gavrilova will find many opportunities to work her way into the service games of the Spaniard.

Something that Gavrilova isn’t always afforded is the luxury of time on the ball, however she will have that tonight. She is an incredibly intelligent player, and will thrive in the conditions coming off matches against bigger strikers in Kuzmova and Serena Williams. On what I have seen recently from both players, I am not sure if SST has enough strengths in her game that match up well here against the Australian. I don’t like to look at head to head too often, however the 6-0 6-0 Gavrilova win from a couple of years ago is certainly noticeable.

3 unit play at the head to head price here.
