Olivia Gadecki was one of the most active players in Australia during the UTR Pro Series, and had quite a large amount of success across the many tournaments that were run. So much success in fact that whilst she is unranked, she was given a wildcard into Australian Open qualifying. That selection was then justified, with Gadecki coming from a set down to defeat Lara Salden 2-6 7-5 6-3 in just over two hours. She did it with strong serving numbers, winning 69% of points behind her first serve for the match. Her composure in particular was impressive, coming from a set down, and she looked the better player in most key moments in set 2 and 3.
Whitney Osuigwe got the job done over Katarzyna Kawa in the first round 6-4 6-3, breaking 6 times for the match. Looking at her form over the course of the last 6 months though (including a 7 match losing streak to finish the year) has made it hard for me to sit here and be able to justify her price being below $1.35 in this one. Are bookmakers unaware of the degree of performances Gadecki produced, all on hardcourt (even if it says clay in some databases)? There is significant value in her price today, as I would have Gadecki closer to $2.25 on what I have seen from her overall.
The bigger the value the bigger the play. Happy to make this a 2 unit selection, probably the biggest of the week given this cautious start to the season with little form to cast judgement over.
