WTA Roland Garros Preview: Errani vs Bertens

Errani vs Bertens (Approx 07:00pm AEST)

I said the other day I would have laughed if someone told me at the start of the year I would be backing Sara Errani at Roland Garros at the start of year, and here I am doing it for the second match in a row.

I was hoping for Kiki Bertens to convince with with a dominant win over Zavatska in round 1. Instead, she found herself on the ropes, and ended up being saved by Zavatska breaking strings on all of her Yonex racquets and needing to borrow her coaches Babolat racquet to finish off the match. Bertens wasn’t dominant, finishing with 25 winners and 34 unforced errors, and will need to produce a better performance here against a tougher opponent in Errani.

It is eight sets in a row for Sara Errani, who is dominating her way through qualifying and the first round. She knocked off Monica Puig 6-2 6-1 in 55 minutes, and only hit five unforced errors for the match along with five winners. If Bertens was striking it a little better and more consistent then I wouldn’t be entertaining this play, however that simply isn’t the case with the recent form of Bertens. This will be out on court 14 in the elements, and although I don’t see as much value in the 4.5 game handicap as it is a tricky handicap in best of 3 tennis, the head to head price for Errani here looks to be value for one unit.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Errani to defeat Bertens at $3.45 at Betfair minus commission
