Puig vs Errani (Approx 07:00pm AEST)
Had you told me at the start of the year that I would have been backing Sara Errani as a favourite in Round 1 of Roland Garros, I’d have probably laughed at you. 2020 continues to deliver.
The only thing saving this handicap from sitting around the 3.5 to 4 game mark is the Puig 6-0 6-1 victory over Errani in Charleston last year. Firstly, the form of Puig then compared to now, not to mention the injury in between, is night and day. Secondly, Charleston green clay is such a different surface to that seen in Paris today, so it is wrong consider any similarities. Thirdly, it was so soon into Errani’s return to the tour from suspension, and her first tournament on clay in her comeback. She was having a plethora of problems with her ball toss, and serving underarm for patches of the match given the struggles.
Whilst her ball toss can still desert her at times, I think there is value in Errani here at the -2.5 game handicap. We saw yesterday the benefit qualifiers had in terms of an adjustment to the tricky conditions, and we haven’t seen Puig on court since her third set bagel at the hands of Gasparyan at the US Open.
I am happy to take the form here of Errani at the game handicap for 1 unit.
Suggested Bet
1 unit Errani -2.5 games vs Puig at $1.93 at Unibet
