ATP Rome Preview: Querrey vs Martinez

Querrey vs Martinez (Approx 09:00pm AEST)

When you look at the clay form of Pedro Martinez, his progression through the rankings to the edge of the Top 100, and the fact Sam Querrey has had incredibly limited success of late on European clay, there is only one side of this market that appeals to me.

Outside of a slow start against Matteo Viola, Martinez has put together a very solid week of tennis in qualifying. I have had concerns regarding the consistency in his game over the last couple of years, however he is really starting to deliver a consistent brand of output and effort across all surfaces. The 6-3 6-2 win over Martin in the final round of qualifying needs to be respected, as I do have a lot of time for Martin on clay.

If Sam Querrey was unable to take a set off Andrey Kuznetsov on hardcourt at the US Open, so soon into his return to the game, I struggle to see this form transitioning over to quality European clay tennis. His only win on European clay since the start of 2018 was against Frances Tiafoe at the French Open in a battle of poor clay performers, and we have witnessed a significant regression in the form of the American over the last 12 months.

This won’t be the biggest selection, however I am more than comfortable in making a 1 unit selection on Martinez to win and cover the -3.5 game handicap.

Suggested Bet

1 unit Martinez -3.5 games vs Querrey at $2.00 at Bet365
