Zvonareva vs Konta (Approx 02:30am AEST)
The return to the tour as a mother from Vera Zvonareva has been incredibly impressive, whilst also going completely under the radar.
I think a little too much may have been read into the Konta victory of Flipkens, and when you combine that with Zvonareva flying under the radar, we have a value underdog spot here.
Zvonareva has only dropped one set on her way through to the third round, and that was the first set against Magda Linette in round 1. Her response, losing 4 games the rest of the way in a 4-6 6-3 6-1 victory. She has looked right at home on the faster hardcourt, with wins over Kovinic, Sharma, Linette and Siegemund in convincing fashion.
How much do we read into the 6-2 6-0 win of Konta over Flipkens? For me, not a lot. I have Zvonareva in the mould of opponent that Konta struggles with. I prefer to take Konta in a counterpunching situation, where she can use the power from the other end of the court to her advantage. Zvonareva has more weapons to be able to challenge Konta compare to Flipkens, and her form this week, as last week against Pegula, makes her price here value.
